Wholesome Skincare

We have all heard our skin is a reflection of our internal health which is very true and in my practice, I help my clients get to the root of what internally is causing their skin concern.  Have you ever taken the time to think about how your skincare could be affecting your internal health?

Our skin is our largest organ and acts as a barrier to protect our internal organs. There are a number of ways this could be compromised: one way is as simple as the molecule size of the product you put on your skin is just small enough to get absorbed into the bloodstream.  This may not seem like a big deal at first but I want you to take a moment and count how many products you apply to your skin daily. I myself use close to 10 products daily on my face alone, this includes everything from my cleanser to my blush. If every single product I put on my skin a tiny bit of it was absorbed into my bloodstream who knows how those chemicals are interacting with my body chemistry.

So you may have a couple of questions now:  Why are these chemicals bad for you? What are these chemicals?  Where can I find safe effective skincare? Some of the synthetic chemicals that get absorbed into the bloodstream have been linked to skin irritation, hormone disruption, birth defects, cancer, immune system toxicity, just to name a few.  There are many chemicals that are deemed toxic. You might be familiar with a few like parabens, talc, and aluminum. In the US we only have banned 30 toxic ingredients, while in Europe they have banned almost 1,400 toxic ingredients. A great resource that I always refer to is EWG Skin Deep, it is also my goal to have a list of them on this website as a reference for my readers.

If you look at wholesome skincare and beauty products you will also notice they do not test on animals.  California was the first state to ban cosmetic testing on animals. I truly believe it is only a matter of time that all of our beauty products will be just as regulated as they are in Europe. You have the power to make it happen to buy wholesome beauty products instead of harmful conventional products. Some of my favorite wholesome brands are:
